This past week, we decided it was time to get take a break from the Vegas heat, pack the truck up, and head to cooler weather. We decided on Kolob Reservoir, one of our favorite go-to places to escape - with temperatures peaking in the 70's and dropping into the 50's at night, it was the perfect choice. We loaded up Friday morning and headed to St. George to pick up Papa Dave before making the final drive to find our camp spot. Once we chose our spot, it was time to unpack and organize - of course the kids wanted to help.
After getting our tents and cooking area set up, it was time to search for fire wood - I'm so thankful for such a strong husband because those logs were HEAVY!
After gathering the logs, they had a big job ahead of them, chopping it into fire wood. During one of his breaks, Papa Dave sat down with Coop to tell him a "scary story"... anyone who knows Dave, also knows he can spin an amazing tale.
After they loaded up our wood pile, the kids were ready to run wild, while the guys were ready to fish. Josh & Dave pulled on their waders and hit the water while Cooper & Caedyn hit the mud, oh joy!
Mid afternoon, we got sprinkled on - the kids loved it and I loved the view it created. Across the lake from our campsite, the biggest, brightest, most vibrant double rainbow appeared that we'd ever seen - it was truly a beautiful sight.
Once the rain passed and the kids were dripping mud, I changed them into dry clothes and Josh, with help from Coop & Cae, started our first campfire of the trip.
Our little daredevil spent the rest of the evening climbing rocks, nothing seems to scare him, except for Papa Dave's story about serpent snakes, which ideally kept him away from the water for the rest of that day, also. He decided it was a good idea for Caedyn to join him on the rocks, I didn't like the idea much since she isn't nearly as coordinated as he is.
After a long, sleepless night, we got up with the sun. I enjoyed donuts & shore fishing with the kids, while the guys spent the morning on their float tubes.
Once they had their fill on the float tubes, I made a big breakfast of bacon & eggs before we went out exploring. Cooper was climbing around like a monkey, while Caedyn was trying to keep up.
We dug out the backpack and brought it along for our trip, so Caedyn got a ride around the lake while the rest of us had to huff it - she eventually fell asleep, must have been a comfy ride.
On our walk, we worked up quite an appetite, so once back to camp we started another fire to cook hot dogs & pie die sandwiches.
We all sat around the camp fire for another one of Dave's adventure stories, they're always very entertaining. We stayed clear of the lake until the storm clouds passed - we lucked out and the wind blew it south of us!
Saturday afternoon the rest of the Craig gang drove up & joined us for dinner. The kids all stripped down and decided to go for a swim, the water was freezing, but that didn't stop them from having fun!
Theresa made dinner Saturday night and I was in charge of dessert - I found a fun recipe on Pinterest for waffle cones filled with fruit, mini marshmallows, & chocolate chips all wrapped in foil and melted on the fire, they were super yummy as long as they didn't burn! That night, we watched the sun set around the camp fire and went to bed as soon as the sun was down.
Luckily, we got a much better nights' sleep and woke up rested Sunday morning. I'm so thankful to be able to drive a few hours to such a beautiful place, away from all the hustle & bustle of the city, and for such a hard working & dedicated husband who is able to provide for the life we live!
Can't wait for our next camp trip - Labor Day Weekend can't come soon enough!
