Going Giggin'

After such a busy Fourth, we relaxed a bit Saturday morning before packing the truck for our overnight camp trip up North with the Busch crew. Part of the drive to our campsite is a dirt road, so the kids unbuckled and helped Josh steer the truck.

Once we found our spot, it was time to set up camp. The kids went exploring nearby while the guys chopped firewood.

After getting everything ready, we took the kids to the creek. While walking through the brush, TONS of little toads were hopping out from under our foot steps - DeVille and Cooper were even brave enough to catch them and tried convincing us to let them keep the toads as pets.

We cooked dinner over the fire and stuffed ourselves for the long night ahead. As the sun set, we all sported our headlamps and went scouting for bullfrogs. Josh was the first to catch one of many throughout the night.

After a few trips on the creek, Elle decided she wanted to gig one herself. She grabbed a pole before leaving our campsite and was ready to go! Cooper carried his net since he's not quite old enough to gig, but that wasn't going to keep him from having a good time.

By the end of our trip, Elle had spotted and gigged two frogs all on her own, she's a frog hunting fool - she even nicknamed the kids (her, DeVille, & Cooper) the "Mini Giggers".

I crawled into bed earlier than the rest around 1am, while the rest of the adults took another stab at the frogs and didn't get back to camp until 3 in the morning!

We woke with the sun on Sunday morning and our kids were quite adventurous, wanting to hold the big bullfrogs.

After all the fun, it was time to get down to business and clean our catch, which was quite the undertaking considering there were nearly 3 dozen frogs needing to be skinned.

While packing up camp, the kids decided to go on another adventure - they wanted to catch some tadpoles. They weren't quite quick enough to bag any, but that didn't stop them from trying, plus it means more frogs next year!

Of course we couldn't leave without snapping a family picture, or two - I am one lucky lady to have such awesome people in my life!
