Our Start of May!

Last week, joined by Angelique, the kids and I did the Historic Railway Tunnel hike out at Lake Mead - it's one of my favorite hikes, but isn't bearable in the summer, so we got it out of the way before our big heat wave hit town. It's an 8.5 mile hike to the Hoover Dam and back on a dirt path, so pushing a stroller at times can prove difficult, but definitely worth it. The kids did great, and I got an awesome work out in!

During our walk we saw lots of desert wildlife, including a group of bighorn sheep who crossed the path directly in front of us, which Cooper absolutely LOVED!

Later in the week, we had the amazing opportunity to check out Union Pacific's engine "Big Boy No.4014" - Cooper is fascinated with trains, so it was a very fun experience. Union Pacific has decided to restore engine No. 4014 back to working condition, which will be quite the undertaking, taking approximately 5 years! This particular coal steam engine was built in 1941 and has set, since being retired in 1961, in a museum in Pomona, California. They're now pulling this massive engine, which is 132 feet in length and weighing a staggering 1.2 million pounds, to Cheyenne, Wyoming to begin the first step of the restoration project. Once finished, they'll bring the massive, running engine on a tour of the country, so now we wait until it rolls back to town!

On Thursday evening, Jerome threw Angelique a surprise birthday party at Grimaldi's, and once again, she had no clue! We sat on the patio and couldn't have asked for better weather. It was such a fun evening, the kids kept each other occupied and the food was amazing!

On Friday, as a continuation for Angelique's birthday, it was adult time! The kids got to spend quality time with their grandparents while Josh & I joined some friends at the pool. We had so much fun!!

And this impromptu photo shoot was the best of all… all we were trying to do was get a nice picture together, but one thing led to another and we couldn't stop laughing - It never fails that we have a great time together!

And I even got a picture with my handsome hubby, I was so excited that he got to join!

After our afternoon of lots of fun in the sun, we relaxed back at home for the evening. The rest of the weekend was spent working on our backyard - we now have a completed & working sprinkler system, a new raised planting bed, sod laid, shrubs & flowers planted, and a nice clean patio! Now all we have left to plant is trees & vines in our retaining wall & to get the house & shed painted, but it's coming along - hooray for home improvements!

Now for a relaxing week to enjoy this break in the heat… :)
