This week, Josh had to go to Reno for work - since the kids haven't started school yet, last minute, we decided to drive up and join him. We left Vegas on Monday and took the 7 hour drive North. My brother lives in Sparks, so we were able to visit him too!
On Tuesday, both Josh and Michael had to work during the day, so the kids and I went on an adventure. We drove to Incline Village, the North side of Lake Tahoe, and spent our day at Kings Beach. The kids splashed and swam, while I enjoyed the beautiful weather and relaxation.
They even decided to start a "rock collection".
Kings Beach was great, the sand was super fine and soft and the water was shallow for almost 100 yards out. The waves created a really cool sand pattern under the water, which made it feel really interesting to walk on.
For lunch, we found a fun Mexican restaurant, Hacienda Del Lago, right on the lake in Tahoe City - we sat on the balcony and enjoyed the beautiful afternoon breeze.
After having our fill of chips & salsa, we spent the rest of our afternoon at Commons Beach. Cooper was determined to find crabs, so we figured the rocky beach was the place to look.
We didn't find any crabs, but spotted several crawfish.
After our afternoon at the lake, we grabbed dinner and spent the evening with Josh after he got off work.
On Wednesday, while the boys were working again, we decided to explore the South side of Lake Tahoe - Our first stop, Vikingsholm Castle. Once parked, we took the mile long hike down to Emerald Bay, where the "hidden castle" is located.
We explored the bay while waiting for our tour to start.
Our guide started our tour off of the back porch, which showcased the amazing view of Emerald Bay and Nannette Island (the home of the Vikingsholm Teahouse).
The tour lasted about 30 minutes - our tour guide explained everything from the background of the original owner, Lora J. Knight, to the interesting Scandinavian architecture of the beautiful 1929 home. An unbelievable amount of detail went into each and every room!
Once the tour concluded, we started our hike back up the hill - the kids decided that when they're older that they are going to move into the expansive (7 bedroom/7bathroom) house, giving Josh & I only the tiny maid room to share, they sure are generous ;)
After our workout, we hit the beach. This time, we spent the afternoon at Nevada Beach - the sand was much more coarse and the water not as shallow, but that didn't stop us from having a good time!
We swam...
Played in the sand...
Cooper even built himself his very own sand chair...
...and relaxed in it when he was finished, gosh I love that boy!
Once again, that evening was spent with the guys. It was so nice to be able to hangout with my brother - we were so used to seeing him all of the time, and now it's so few and far between.
We woke up early Thursday morning to make the drive back to Vegas. Both kids do so well with long distance car rides, the 7 hour drive seems to fly by!
Friday was Cooper's birthday - we spent the day doing whatever he wanted... breakfast at Mad Batter, a little shopping, and opening presents.
That evening was girls night out - Mom and I got tickets to see Lynyrd Skynyrd & Peter Frampton at the Cosmo, so we took full advantage of our alone time.
We ate dinner at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar - it was by far the prettiest sushi presentation I've ever seen, delicious too!
We grabbed drinks and our seats once we got into The Chelsea.
We had SO MUCH FUN - great company, plus a great show!
Now we're preparing for Cooper's birthday celebration... I still can't believe our boy is 6!
On to our next adventure... ;)
