Just like the past 3 years, we upheld tradition and went back to Illinois for the annual fishing trip. We headed for the airport on a Friday afternoon with the whole family in tow. Cooper was super excited to fly on a big jet again, but it was Caedyn's first time & she did surprisingly well. Cooper met our captain while roaming the airport, so he invited him up to the cockpit to take a look around.
First thing Saturday morning, we loaded up the car and took the 20 minute drive to Uncle Brian's. Cooper and his cousins, Katie and Anna, ran wild while the rest of us relaxed along the river. This was most of the family's first time meeting Caedyn, so she got her fair share of being passed around.
On Sunday morning, we all woke up bright and early for church - it was Caedyn's big day! On Sunday, May 19th, we had her baptized at St. Peter's - the same church Cooper and I had been baptized at. Luckily, since she's such a teeny girl, she fit into the same dress me and Grammy both wore, and that my Great Grandma made! It was such a special day and were surrounded by lots of family and love. My Aunt Jean & Uncle Steven volunteered to be her Godparents, and stood up for her during the ceremony.
After the baptism, we all gathered for a celebration at my grandparents. The weather thankfully cooperated so we spent most of the afternoon enjoying the deck and good company.
On Monday after Josh and the rest of the guys left for the fishing trip, the kids and I went to my Uncle Jim & Aunt Deb's and visited with my Grandma Gall.
Tuesday the kids and I loaded up the car, along with my mom, and drove to Morrison, IL to stay at Uncle Stevens house with his girls. The kids play well together, and Caedyn LOVED having more kids running around to keep her entertained.
On Wednesday, Katie had a poetry reading at school so we walked to her elementary and enjoyed the show.
Since Cooper and Anna behaved so well, we took a detour to the park before heading back to the house.
Josh got back from the fishing trip Wednesday afternoon, with a catch of 225 fish in 2 days! After washing off the fish smell and stink of 6 guys, we visited the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago on Thursday. They had an interactive exhibit that Cooper really enjoyed, but he loved the dinosaur bones the best. Below are the photos of our day.
We spent Friday at my Aunt & Uncles enjoying the sunshine and some good food, while the kids hammed it up in the backyard.
As always, the kids were a mess and needed a good washing after their long humid day, so in the sink they went!
Saturday, once again, we made the trip out to Uncle Brian's for the annual fish fry. While waiting for the oil to heat and food to warm, we took a walk to the old bridge and park up the river. I love how green Illinois is, especially since we have none of that in Las Vegas.
Unfortunately Sunday was time to leave, but we got a surprise visit before we headed for the airport. My cousin Shay was back from school in Michigan so she stopped by for a visit. I had to make sure to get a picture with their Great Grandparents too before we left.
I am so thankful we're able to make the trip back once a year to visit. It's so nice being able to catch up and reconnect with family, and now have them fall in love with the rest of mine.
