Since Josh is working in Reno, we decided to visit him for Labor Day Weekend - my parents joined in, so we all rented a condo in Incline Village. On Friday, Caedyn rode to Tahoe with Grams & Pops, while Cooper was my road dog for the day.
Josh had all 3 days off for the holiday weekend, so we spent Saturday exploring in South Lake Tahoe. After lunch, we relaxed at the beach while waiting for our boat tour to start - the kids collected shells, each trying to find the smallest "baby" one.
Since we're all adrenaline junkies, we opted to ride the Tahoe Thunder, a speed boat topping out at 60mph - I haven't quite talked Josh into parasailing, yet!
The tour shot us across the lake to Emerald Bay - I don't think either kid stopped smiling during the entire bumpy ride, in fact, they giggled louder each time we hit a really big wave!
We slowed down through the bay, taking in the view of Vikingsholm Castle, before we sped back to the dock.
That evening, we enjoyed dinner on the patio at Austin's in Incline Village with the whole family - afterwards, to curb my sweet tooth, we got ice cream at Susie Scoops before calling it a night.
On Sunday morning, we took the kids to Sand Harbor Beach to burn some energy - they climbed the boulders, dug in the sand, and swam in the cool water, while we enjoyed the beautiful view.
After our fun day at the beach, we relaxed the rest of the afternoon - most of our time was spent watching the Harry Potter marathon & playing UNO.
On Monday, we drove to historic Virginia City to spend the day.
First, we grabbed some caramel apples & watched the parade - the kids left with a candy bag filled to the brim.
Since it was Civil War Days, at the end of the parade, the Yankee & Rebel soldiers battled it out on main street, gun powder and all.
Our next stop was the Old Washoe Club, former home of The Millionaires Club in the late 1800's, and currently the most haunted building in Nevada. We took the hour tour of the massive 3 story building - our guide explained the rich history of the building and walked us through the rooms which show the most paranormal activity - Cooper was captivated and asked to stay the night, Caedyn, on the other hand, couldn't wait to get out of there (even looking back through pictures, she said "I DON'T LIKE THAT PLACE!")
This was my favorite room, the windows overlooked Main Street in Virginia City, but it also was very unlevel, the difference from one corner to the other was over a foot! The picture shows exactly what it felt like to stand in that room - constantly leaning!
At the end of the tour, we were brought to the cellar which was also used as a morgue during the towns hay day - definitely one of the coolest (and chilliest) rooms in the building!
After our "super creepy" tour (as Cae would say), we grabbed a late lunch at the Red Dog Saloon, they had delicious pizza & garlic fries!
Our last stop before leaving town was to get old time photos - it was so fun to dress up and pretend, if only for a few minutes!
That evening, my parents kept the kids so Josh & I could have a date night. We got a room in Sparks & ate at The Oyster Bar - I was pleasantly surprised at how good their food was!
On Tuesday, it was time to drive back home - Caedyn was my partner for the day, while my parents rode back with Coop.
It was such a nice getaway with my family - we don't get to do it often enough! I think Lake Tahoe is one of my new favorite places, in the summer time at least ;)
Until next time... :)
