The Gem State

We've had so many changes happening in our life lately, we decided to take a break from it all. Josh had a few days off in between jobs, so we took the drive up to Idaho to relax and spend time with family. Both kids did AMAZING in the car, especially considering it's an 11 hour drive!

Once we arrived, the kids ran wild, burning as much energy as possible before bed time - Grandma Shirley's swing was by far their favorite pastime.

We spent our first day at Zoo Boise, a small, but very clean & organized zoo - they had a very big variety of animals, too!

Did you even know that Red Pandas exist? They were SOOO cute!

The penguins were nesting, so they didn't leave their dens, but they're still one of my favorites!

This picture cracks me up every time & explains their relationship so well - Cooper was mad because Caedyn chose his favorite penguin!

If you look close at the picture below, you can see the baby's feet peeking out of his momma's pouch.

The wingspan of this vulture was over 6 foot wide!

Cooper kept saying "That bird needs a haircut!"

My very favorite exhibit of the day was the Giraffe Encounter - we got the opportunity to actually feed a giraffe ourselves. Caedyn thought she wanted to join in, until she got up close and personal - you can see her hilarious faces below. Cooper, on the other hand, dove right in and couldn't get enough!

Cooper decided the snow leopard was his favorite animal of the day - she was very beautiful and spunky, jumping and running around her enclosure all afternoon.

They also had a petting zoo exhibit called the "Zoo Farm" where the kids could feed and pet the goats & sheep.

We stopped for sno-cones and to rest our feet, before finishing up our afternoon at the final few exhibits.

Caedyn decided the tigers were her favorite of the day - we even got to see some action & hear her growl!

On our way out, we stopped at the playground while the kids went up & down the giraffe slide!

On day two, the boys took a fishing trip to CJ Strike, while us girls spent the day shopping & cooking!

On our third day, we decided to take a drive. We found a reservoir on a map and spent the next few hours winding through the mountains on our way to Cascade, ID & it was beautiful! Each mile seemed to become a little more green, until it was green as far as the eye could see.

The road followed the Payette River until we finally ran into Lake Cascade - it looked like a picture on a poster!

With our poles loaded in the truck, we found the perfect place to throw the lines in.

After no luck, the kids lost interest in watching the poles, but busied themselves with sand & sticks.

We snapped a family picture before loading up & heading out.

We spent the evening with Grandma Shirley & Papa John, enjoying the beautiful weather and even better company.

We couldn't have asked for a better vacation - we're already looking forward to our next Idaho trip!
